Happy WCM Day with a Trio of Mixed Media Cards

Hello, friends! I am joining my many friends around the globe today celebrating World Card Making Day! I have a trio of mixed media cards that I had so much fun to make. I used three of my own stamp designs by Penny Black: Petal Power, Sentimental and Textures.

I LOVE the mixed media look, but don't have a lot of time to create all the layers and textures. And when creating cards, I really can't make them too bulky because I risk damaging the card en route to its recipient. This is why I love my stamps and inks to create depth without the bulk. For my cards below, I stamped the solid images from Petal Power with Distress Inks and watered them down with a brush to create the water colored look.

When they dried, I inked, stitched and distressed the edges. To create the textured burlap/canvas look, I stamped randomly Textures with Antique Linen right on top of the flower.

I then watered down some Distress Ink Black Soot and with a water colored brush, picked up the color and flicked the excess water off onto the stamped image to create this look.

I allowed all that to dry before stamping the sentiment with Versafine Ink above the image. To finish the card, I added some button, twine and Want2Scrap pearls. I made the card base to coordinate with the colors of the flowers. Adhesives by SA by 3L.

OWH Memorial Day Blog Hop 2014

I am thrilled to be joining today's Operation Write Home Memorial Day Blog Hop. What a special, yet still somehow insufficient, way to remember those who have sacrificed so much for the sake of our freedom. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. May we never take for granted the freedom that God has blessed us with through your courage and service.

My patriotic mixed media card thank you card for you today is based on Sketch # B-7. I watercolored the background with red and blue. The Melissa Frances tag has the same patriotic colors. The chipboard frame was swiped with Memento ink. I adhered these different pieces using Scrapbook Adhesives by3L.

The bird and Thank You are both cut with Penny Black dies. The sentiment and button are actually blue, but the photo makes them look darker somehow.

OWH Memorial Day Blog Hop

Hello, friends! I'm so excited to take part in this year's Operation Write Home Memorial Day Blog Hop. OWH is a worthwhile cause that provides handmade cards for the servicemen and women to send to their loved ones back home.

My card for today is based on Sketch #34. I stamped The Craft's Meow's Flower Garden stamp images in colors that match the My Mind's Eye patterned papers.

The sentiment is from The Craft's Meow's Telegram set. It says, "Thinking of You is the most natural thing for me to do." Now, wouldn't you love to hear somebody say that to you? :)

Happy birthday, Operation Write Home (formerly Cards for Heroes)

That wonderful organization Cards for Heroes is now called Operation Write Home and they are celebrating their birthday this weekend. They have lots of information where you will find out how worthwhile this cause is and inspiration too. Make sure you head over to their brand new site, OPERATION WRITE HOME. They have prizes galore. Here's a birthday card I made in honor of the occasion. I don't make them enough, but love cards that are funny. I hope this card will put a smile on a somebody's face.


If you can't read it, the saying says, "You're only young once, but you can be immature forever." That image of a granny on a mechanical horse is just too funny.
