For this month's hop, I challenged the team to create an ornament or tags, which will come in handy in the upcoming holidays. I have several projects for you today. The first is a set of felt ornaments using
Spellbinders' Sweet Folk Art dies. I used my pinking shears to cut around the stocking die cuts and added some hand stitching. Scraps of lace, ricrac and button finish these super easy ornaments that you can make with your kids.
My 2nd ornament is also made of felt using the tree, heart, and star dies from the
Sweet Folk Art set as well. I framed it using
Spellbinders' Scalloped Nested Pennants dies. I added a paper rose and twine for hanging.
My 2nd project is a set of Christmas tags using the same tree die from
Sweet Folk Art. I used several Spellbinders Labels die as my tag base. These are again very easy to make and are mass-producible.
To make these tags, I die cut label dies from Kraft or Sand cardstock. I inked the edges with white pigment for added effect, but it's hard to see on the photo. I cut several dies at a time using coordinating papers from a pack, as you see below. I used My Mind's Eye papers. Then I sorted the die cuts accordingly. Because they came from the same pack, the papers are already coordinated for you.
I want to show you how the die-cut trees look like close up. As you see the "layers" are cut almost across, for easy snipping in order to create a layered, quilted look. The holes on the edges are also done with one run through your die machine. You can leave them as is, or run a white pen, or stitched for a more realistic quilted look.
I snipped the tree layers and mix and matched them with the others, as you see below. I stamped my sentiment from
The Craft's Meow's Season's Greetings set in two colors and cut them into little banners. I adhered them, along with the die cut trees on the labels. I punched a hole on top, inserted a ribbon and adhered the two ends using Scor-tape (see below)
I made three versions of the tags: easy (adding only twine), intermediate (ribbon) and fancy (ribbon with button center:
I even went one step further and used some of these tags to make focal points for a mass-produced card set. I will share the tutorial on how I made these in a future post when I announce the winners of the giveaways.
